What Berwick homeowners say
“We recently had extra snow guards added to our roof. The workers that showed up, were professional and dedicated, it was Saturday evening, they were all smiles and very polite.”
“The materials used are of good quality and professionally installed. Very pleased with the completed work.”
“I was happy to see that the work was done effectively, the installers were well-informed, courteous and did quality work. Very pleased! I had the dumpster in my driveway for 13 days which was rather inconvenient.”
“Again, as long as that missing step gets completed I give this a 4. For now, I will say 3.6. It would have been if they had taken care of that one ommitted step, but they said they will take care of it.”
Roofing in Berwick: what to plan for
Salt air: aluminum cannot rust
From Halifax Harbour and the South Shore to Yarmouth, the Fundy shore and Cape Breton, much of Nova Scotia lives with salt spray, fog and wind-driven rain, and salt is what wears out steel roofing once its coating is breached. Aluminum forms a thin, tough oxide layer that seals the metal against further corrosion and re-forms if scratched, so an Interlock® roof has no steel core to rust, on the shore or inland.
Atlantic storms, post-tropical storms and wind
Nova Scotia is exposed to Atlantic storms and the remnants of hurricanes, and wind works at shingle tabs and exposed fasteners. Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides with the fasteners concealed, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification. No roof is storm-proof: hurricane-force wind damage is a matter for your home insurance, and it is excluded from our labour warranty.
Wet snow, freeze-thaw and ice dams
Nova Scotia winters swing above and below freezing, often with rain on snow. Interlock panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, a fraction of concrete tile, have nothing to crack or soak up water, and let snow slide rather than sit, so we plan snow guards over entries, walkways, decks and the driveway at the quote. Ice dams start with heat escaping into the attic, so we look at insulation and ventilation with you as well.
Century homes, suburbs and cottages
Older homes in Halifax and Dartmouth, newer houses in Bedford, Fall River and Hammonds Plains, century homes in Lunenburg, Wolfville and Annapolis Royal, and cottages on the shore all take the same system. Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles give the look of slate or wood at roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, a fraction of concrete tile or natural slate. Every profile needs a minimum 3/12 roof slope, and we confirm yours at the consultation.
Condominium complexes
In a Nova Scotia condominium the board of directors of the condominium corporation usually decides on the roof, often with a reserve fund study in hand. We give boards one profile and colour across every building, the product documents they ask for, and both warranties in writing.
Our own crews, from our office in Dartmouth
We install every roof ourselves, from our office in Burnside, Dartmouth, and consultations are on Zoom or at your home anywhere in the province. The manufacturer's Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty and our 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty come with the roof, and after the install, service comes from the same company.
